2020 Annual Meeting Equipping Team Report
As we consider a new year and prayerfully moving beyond the Covid Pandemic, we are naturally concerned about the health and vitality of our churches. Can our churches return to at least where we were? Can we grow and prosper? Your Equipping Team says, “Yes!!” We are working to provide at this time four opportunities that we believe will help your church position itself to prosper post-pandemic!
WINTER BIBLE STUDY
We are again planning to have Dr. Mike Smith from Jacksonville College with us to provide an overview of our Winter Bible Study topic. This is a great opportunity for whoever is considering leading this study for this year. The highlighted books are First, Second, and Third John. It will be held on November 21, 10:00 AM, at First Baptist Church in Mexia.
CHURCH SECURITY CLASS
We are planning to bring a certified instructor to teach safety, security, and the laws pertaining to obtaining a Concealed Hand-Gun permit. Also includes training on how to evaluate the situation and how to develop a Church Security team that can stop a threat if or when an active shooter situation might arise. We will also share how we as sister churches can respond if one of our churches faces such a situation. Stay tuned for a date.
CHURCH LEGAL PROTECTION CLASS
This class led by Harrison Smith will provide information helping us as churches avoid lawsuits and court appearances. We will discuss and review all church documents and point out areas where trouble can arise and how to correct it. Stay tuned for the date.
SUNDAY SCHOOL/SMALL GROUP CONFERENCE
Alan Taylor, in his book The Six Core Values of Sunday School, relates how before going into ministry, he coached receivers and defensive backs. He relates that ten years of coaching taught him that blocking and tackling are what win games. “So it is in church,” he says. “The Sunday school that can block and tackle will be fruitful. To leave the fundamentals of Sunday school is to leave Sunday school. So let’s not relinquish the fundamentals of a sound Sunday school ministry and then make declarations that Sunday school does not work! Nothing works if it is not worked.” We are planning a “Fundamentals of Sunday School” conference for some time in January or February. We believe it is still very possible to grow your church through the Sunday School! Make that commitment and bring your people to this timely event!
